Newtownards
Newtownards is a busy market town located right at the top end of Strangford Lough and the Ards Peninsula, an "Area of outstanding natural beauty," and just 10 miles east of Belfast city.
The town has seen significant growth in recent years with several large-scale new housing developments currently under way, such as Rivenwood and Beverely Garden Village, and a new and thriving commercial retail park at Castlebawn to compliment the original Ards Shopping Centre.
Famous for its 100-foot (30m) high "Scrabo Tower", which was built in 1857, official records show the town was established in 1606.
Newtownards acts as a commuter town for Belfast and beyond whilst also being the first point for visitors to the many delights of the Ards Peninsula. It boasts a wide variety of both national retailers and independent outlets and a wide variety of pubs, restaurants, and other local services. The Saturday market in Conway Square is still a centre piece of local life and draws many shoppers to the town.
In terms of Schools there is Regent House Grammar School, Movilla High School and several primary schools including Abbey Primary, Victoria Primary, Castle Gardens Primary, The Model Primary and Londonderry Primary.
