Ballycopeland Windmill, is a late 18th-century tower mill in use until 1915 and still in working order as a visitor centre.

The population of the village increases significantly during the Spring to Autumn months due to its poprularity with holiday makers and its variety of caravan parks. It benefits from a large Eurospar in addition to several pubs, and takeaways. The large beach and car park to the south of the town can be busy during the summer. Heading south you will find the former Borstal. Originally built as a private summer mansion in the 1800s for wealthy Belfast mill owner John Gilmore Dunbar, it was later sold and became Millisle Borstal between the 1950s and 80s. It is currently awaiting redevelopment.
