Bangor was awarded city status in 2022 making it Northern Irelands 6th city. It boasts a substantial marina built in 1989 which includes the charming "Pickie Park" famous for its model train and peddle "Swans" which leads to a lovely coastal walk past Crawfordsburn, Helens bay and into Belfast.
To the east of the city is Ballyholme bay with its golden sands and period style homes, an area which is in high demand.
The area from Bangor west towards Belfast and east towards Donaghadee is often known as Co Down's "Gold coast" and is a highly desirable residential area with properties often exceeding £1,000,000. More affordable properties are available within the Bangor city area itself with something for everyone given its wide variety of house types, from traditional to modern, and its train and transport links to Belfast.
Bloomfields, Springhill & Clandeboye shopping outlets offer great choice and variety to shoppers and are complimented by a wide range of commercial businesses in the Balloo Area and Bangor City Centre.
Night life in Bangor centres around High Street & Main Street with a wide variety of independent bars and restuarants like The Goats Toe, The Ava, Tom's Diner, Donegans, Jenny Watts, Wolseys and others to choose from.
Bangor also boasts some of Northern Ireland best schools, with Bangor Academy currently Northern Irelands largest secondary school, and Bangor Grammar & Glenlola Collegiate offering Grammar School education plus of course a wide range of primamry schools and the local campus of the South Eastern Regional College (SERC).
